About The Designer

Cynthia Rowley began her career in fashion while studying at the Art Institute of Chicago. Where she had every intention of becoming a painter until a chance encounter with a retail buyer on a train, who asked about the homemade jacket she was wearing. In the ultimate fake-it-till-you-make-it moment, she scored an order from a prominent store in Chicago and took it as a sign to pack up a U-Haul and move to New York City.

Known for her bold, imaginative runway shows, Rowley recently celebrated her 101st runway during New York Fashion Week, set against a sunset backdrop with Lady Liberty and sailboats drifting behind the waterfront runway. From pillow fights and paper forests to mirrored beach runways, each show blends art, performance, and surprise.

Beyond art, travel and adventure play a key role in shaping the Cynthia Rowley brand. Whether she’s exploring on a far-flung getaway, surfing secret spots in exotic destinations, or scuba-diving in an arctic glacier, it’s safe to say the designer is known to take risks. Cynthia Rowley has won numerous accolades, including the CFDA Founder’s Award, CFDA Perry Ellis Award, a nomination for the CFDA Menswear Award, was named Designer of the Year by the American Image Awards, and many others. She's thrilled to share a West Village home with her two daughters, Kit and Gigi, affectionately known as their own little sorority house Alpha Alpha Alpha.
